Estimates assume minimum retention and object sizes are met. Retrieval equals internet egress. Taxes, early deletion, replication and CDN fees are excluded.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS

A fairer storage comparison.

Public list prices checked on 2026-09-12. This is a manually maintained snapshot, not a live billing quote.

The calculation

Monthly estimate = storage + internet egress + write requests + read requests + retrieval. Bundle fees and included usage are applied first. AWS and Google volume tiers are included.

Units and regions

Inputs use decimal TB (1 TB = 1,000 GB). We convert bytes to each provider’s billing units, including GiB (1,073,741,824 bytes). Table storage, egress and retrieval rates are normalized to decimal GB and rounded for display; calculations use unrounded rates. Rates represent the regions listed in provider details. Google uses Iowa, flat namespace. Internet delivery is to North America.

Free allowances

The switch applies recurring account allowances for Cloudflare, Backblaze, AWS and Google. It assumes you are eligible and have not used them elsewhere. New-customer credits and time-limited trials are excluded. Paid-plan bundles and Backblaze’s 3× egress inclusion always apply. Cloudflare rounds billable storage to GB and operations to whole millions.

Retention, retrieval and fair use

We assume objects meet each plan’s minimum retention and billable size. Early deletion or small objects can increase your bill. For cooler tiers, retrieved data is assumed to equal internet egress; internal reads and repeated reads may add costs. Wasabi’s estimate is excluded from ranking when egress exceeds active storage because its fair-use policy may limit that workload.

What is excluded

Taxes, negotiated discounts, replication, versioning, lifecycle transitions, optional features, CDN charges and migration. A low estimate does not compare durability, availability, latency, compliance or feature parity. Google’s XML interoperability is only partial S3 compatibility.
